Basically, I was born an artist. There has never been a time in my life when I wasn't drawing, painting, or pasting paper onto something. I remember my kindergarten teacher trying to pry me away from the easel, and expressing her concerns to my parents that I seemed to have no other interests. Although I have included other activities into my life since then, I still feel that something is amiss if I am not in my studio painting every day.
I am a mostly self-taught artist (with one exception that I will mention later). I have come to feel that I was fortunate not to have had much in the way of formal training, as it has allowed me to develop my own style from studying the works of the artists I am truly drawn to (no pun intended). The exception I mentioned was a semester at Cazenovia College a few years ago in which I was introduced to and instructed in the use of oil paints and techniques by the wonderful artist/painter/illustrator/professer, Richard Williams. It was during a very basic drawing class that he said to me "You need to paint with oils." He was right. Thanks Richard.
